The special meeting of the Coimbatore Corporation council began with a walkout by the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) councillors protesting against the failure of the State Government in pressurising the Centre to intervene and ensure a ceasefire in Sri Lanka. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the ruling Congress moved a resolution seeking ceasefire in the ethnic war- prone island nation.
